PINES library users across the state will now receive even more benefits with their library card. Recently it was announced that Georgia citizens who have a PINES card can use the Evergreen online catalog (available at http://gapines.org) to access GALILEO, Georgia’s Internet-accessible virtual library.
GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online. The program is an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University of Georgia. Over 100 electronic databases are available to Georgians through this program. GALILEO content includes business directories, government publications such as the Georgia Code, a worldwide library catalog entitled WorldCat, and over 2000 journal titles with full text article entries. GALILEO also includes Heritage Quest, a genealogy research site.
Previously, citizens who wished to use GALILEO from home were asked to visit their local public library each quarter to pick up a new password. The new process allows users to enter GALILEO by simply visiting the online Evergreen catalog (available at http://gapines.org), entering their library card and password, and clicking on the GALILEO web link. This prevents users from obtaining and remembering a new password four times a year.
